Dr. Catia Saraiva is a distinguished medical professional with a comprehensive background in hyperbaric medicine and pulmonary care. She earned her Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2009, demonstrating exceptional dedication and academic excellence.
During her medical journey, Dr. Saraiva embarked on a transformative optional Public Health internship in Guinea-Bissau in 2008. There, she focused on the screening of anemia in pregnant women, implementing iron and folic acid supplementation programs. This experience showcased her commitment to global health initiatives.
Dr. Saraiva's commitment to continuous learning and diverse medical experiences is evident in her participation in various internships and exchanges. Notably, she completed a Short Medical Internship in Pediatric Emergency Care at Hospital Fernando Fonseca in 2007 and an Exchange Internship in Emergency Medicine at Saint George's Hospital in London, United Kingdom, in 2008.
Subsequently, she pursued specialization in Pulmonology at the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) from 2010 to 2015. Since 2016, she has served as a Hospital Assistant in Pulmonology at CHUA's Portimão Unit. In this role, Dr. Saraiva has demonstrated expertise in managing the Pulmonology Oncology Clinic, as well as providing consultations for Sleep Apnea Syndrome, Neuromuscular Diseases, Oxygen Therapy, and performing various Pulmonology Techniques.
Dr. Saraiva's dedication extends beyond clinical practice, as evidenced by her prolific contributions to scientific research. She has authored numerous lectures, posters, oral communications, and research papers, showcasing her commitment to advancing medical knowledge.
Her role as a member of the scientific and operational COVID group at the Hospital de Portimão and Lagos underlines her commitment to public health during challenging times.
In 2016, Dr. Saraiva acquired competence in Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine. From 2016 to 2021, she played a pivotal role in the Hospital Particular do Algarve (HPA) - Unidade de Medicina Hiperbárica, further enriching her expertise in hyperbaric medicine.
Recently, Dr. Saraiva completed the VIII Post-Graduation in Aeronautical Medicine by the Portuguese Air Force in 2022. She now serves as an Aeronautical Medical Examiner at CMA UCS TAP since 2023, highlighting her commitment to aviation medicine.
